About the Club

Members of the Eastern Cascades Model Railroad Club (ECMRRC) often wish to participate in both the HO and the 1½" activities. Those interested in the Eastern Cascades Railroad (HO) meet every Wednesday evening with run nights and work nights on alternating weeks. Those who wish to spend time with the Big Railroad (1½") outside call themselves the Central Oregon Area Live Steamers (COALS) and, weather permitting, generally start their work programs on Saturday mornings.

The Eastern Cascades Railroad (ECRR) is an HO scale model layout covering about 1200 square feet of its 1650 square foot building with over 1900 feet of track. Visit the HO RAILROAD tab above to see a schematic of the layout and to get club statistics on rolling stock and facilities. The railroad requires a minimum of eight people, including a dispatcher and two mainline engineers, to fully operate all of the stations. The current run schedule takes about two hours to complete. On alternate weeks the group works on a variety of projects, including general maintenance, track and electrical improvements, scenery and building construction, and rolling stock maintenance.

The Central Oregon Area Live Steamers operate and maintain an outdoor 1.5-inch scale railroad (1.5 inches = one foot), large enough for members and guests to enjoy riding. The layout includes several bridges (including a 60-foot bridge with concrete abutments), a turntable, timber retaining walls, and several turnouts. Work completed in 2008 added a new loop that doubled the trackage to more than 2300 feet. One club locomotive and several member-owned locomotives operate over the main line. For more of the specifics on the COALS operation, go to the 1.5-INCH RAILROAD tab above.
